It’s that time of year again…
Top Gear presenter and Chipping Norton resident Jeremy Clarkson will be the man with the hammer at the town hall on September 13 as he hosts a ninth Auction of Promises to help the town’s lido.
The event raised about £16,500 last year and the popular journalist and broadcaster will once again be part of this year’s spectacle at 7pm.
Claire Jarvis, trustee, said: “It is all set to be a great evening with Mr Clarkson being a big draw to help generate tickets.
“It will make an extremely entertaining evening with a lot of banter, and it is great to have such a well-known personality again supporting the lido.”
Since the first auction in 2004, the event has raised more than £100,000 towards the upkeep of the lido.
Money raised goes towards helping run and maintain the building, which is managed on behalf of the residents of Chipping Norton and the surrounding villages.
Based in Fox Close, it is run as a charity and its heated 25-metre pool and toddler pool provides a popular attraction during the summer months.
Mrs Jarvis said: “The event has raised between £12,500 and £22,500 each year and we hope this event will be just as popular.
“We urge those who haven’t got a ticket to get one as soon as possible!
The items due to be auctioned on the night include a chance to meet and greet legendary rockers Status Quo, a tour of Stratford-upon-Avon’s Royal Shakespeare Company theatre and the opportunity to bid for your height in Old Hooky beer.
Tickets for the event are priced at £15 and available from Jaffe & Neale Bookshop in Middle Row or by calling the lido on 01608 643188.
